this is the tour diary of a Toadies/Willowz tour in May and June ‘09.
shot and mostly edited on tour with a Nikon D90, a couple lenses and laptop. this was the 2nd half of the best tour ever. I lost all the footage from the first half when my camera stuff was stolen in Austin.

seeing this Rhett Miller-esque vision in the dressing room means only one thing: the tour has resumed and People in Planes are in the house. they’ve joined our tour for the next 8 dates. we’re pleased as punch to have them back. there are already no less than 3 ploys in place in case we ever need to remove Ian (below) from the bus.

Watchdriving. our drummer Rez’s father has passed, so he has travelled back to San Antonio. we’ve cancelled one show and might be canceling more. so for now, we’re driving. we have no destination, but have momentum.
sadly, we got no Rez.
Abilene, TX: Five-O said FREEZE!
we arrived for our first-ever show in Abilene, TX today. the town is actually nice enough. it feels how I imagined other Texas towns felt 50 years ago.
a short journey that Baggins and I made from the venue proved worthwhile. we found some abandoned houses that had been taken over by stray cats. most were completely sketched out by our presence, but not this here kitty:

Philly/NYC - 48 hour food consumption tally
basically, a tour for me is one long food run, with shows in between. food is usually the best part of any day, and when your day involves 10 sweaty dudes shadowing you 24-7, you take every opportunity for joy. and generally speaking, meat+cheese+bread is just what the doctor ordered. therefore I was looking forward to the first two stops on this leg of the tour.

Louisville, KY - meet People in Planes
we arrive in Louisville for the 6th of 6 shows in a row. we’ve got new tourmates in Wales’ People in Planes. they speak funny and they have strange names, but they’re nice fellas and then do bust out some nice big loud music. get used to seeing them here because they’re on tour with us until Thanksgiving.

a day off in Salt Lake City
pretty much whenever you’re touring you want to route the tour so that you get a day off in Salt Lake City. not really at all, but for these purposes let’s pretend that it’s true. so when the people who tell you where you’re supposed to be tell you to drive to to Salt Lake for a day off, there’s only one thing you can do.

we return to Odessa, Texas despite our pledge 10 years ago to never return. it all had something to do with my wrestling the wrong table and being chased from the club by a young local man wielding a pipe screaming ‘I’m gonna kill you with this here pipe!’ apparently it was only PVC pipe, but scary nonetheless.

1st Annual Dia De Los Toadies - Possum Kingdom...

well, we had the silly idea to host our own annual festival, not unlike Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic that has been happening in Texas every year for some 30-odd years. it happened this past weekend and was actually more of a blast that any of us could have imagined.

American wins 2008 World Air Guitar Championships...
American Hotlixx Huluhan won his second world title in Oulu, Finland as part of the 2008 World Air Guitar Championships. Huluhan performed to the Toadies song Plane Crash. if you don’t know about the World Air Guitar Championships, I recommend you watch Air Guitar Nation, on which I served as editor.
